25th Annual Sun Prairie / Essentially Ellington Regional Jazz Festival a success!!
On Saturday, February 17, 2018 the Sun Prairie Band Boosters with generous support from Jazz at Lincoln Center, Ward Brodt Music and both the Birch Creek and Shell Lake jazz camps presented the 25th Annual Sun Prairie Jazz Festival, which for the past 6 years has also been a regional "Essentially Ellington" festival.
Bands from around the state joined clinicians from around the country for a special day of jazz education. We had the lead directors of jazz studies from Juilliard, Eastman, Northwestern and more as well as clinicians who have played with a "who's who" in jazz. Not only were our clinicians stellar musicians but also wonder people and teachers who inspired students throughout the day.
The day was capped by an evening concert that feature our clinicians with some of the days' high school bands as well as a combo set provided by our professionals. It was a concert of "New York jazz club" caliber at a Sun Prairie price. All three SPHS Jazz Ensembles performed at the evening concert.
