Begin the Journey...JOIN BAND!

The Sun Prairie Band Program is recognized throughout Wisconsin as one of the best band programs in the state. Our ensembles have performed at numerous state, regional and national music confer- ences. Our high school jazz program has been selected to perform in the Essentially Ellington Competition in New York seven times. Our bands routinely commission composers and have guest artists work with our students. The Sound of Sun Prairie marching band has won Grand Champion numerous times in recent years. Simply stated....there is a place for your child in this program. As one parent stated, “750 band students and families can’t be wrong!"

We look forward to many years of collaboration and service together and are delighted to have you with us! Our school community and the Sun Prairie Band Program is committed to excellence and the belief and value of music education for our children!

For Incoming 6th Graders

Picture
Band in Sun Prairie begins in the 6th grade at either Prairie View Middle School or Patrick Marsh Middle School. Band teachers will travel to all of the SPASD elementary schools in May to provide all 5th graders with a mouthpiece sampling experience during their general music class. Interested students will then have the opportunity to sign up for a 10-minute appointment to select an instrument and to sign up for "Band Starts Now!," our free summer start-up program.

Students who are interested in learning percussion instruments will have the opportunity to audition for a spot as a percussionist in their middle school's 6th grade band in May. To help students prepare for the audition, we offer two percussion workshops prior to auditions for students to learn and practice the audition material. While attendance at these workshops is not required, it is highly recommended.

Below is a 8-minute informational video on the Sun Prairie Band Program as well as information about how to sign up for band as an incoming 6th grader. For more information, please download the "Join Band" booklet by clicking on the link to the left. We also encourage you to explore the other pages on this website and to contact any of the Sun Prairie Band Teachers with any questions or comments you may have. We are looking forward to hearing from you soon!

For Other Students

We are always happy to enroll any SPASD student in grades 6-12 into a band at their respective school. No matter what your experience or ability level may be, you will find that there is a place for you in the Sun Prairie Band family!
