About Prairie View Jazz:

About 6th Grade Jazz Band

Prairie View offers two jazz bands that meet outside of the regular school day, a 6th grade jazz band and a 7th grade jazz band. Membership is open to any student at PVMS with preference given to students who are enrolled in band.

6th Grade Jazz Band is designed to explore this truly American art-form in a safe, inviting environment. Students will learn the fundamental basics of the 12-bar blues progression and will begin to develop a melodic and rhythmic vocabulary that can be used for improvisation. Students will also learn several jazz charts by ear and will work toward a final performance at the "Swing Into Spring Extravaganza" as well as a special performance during the day at Prairie View in April.

6th Grade Jazz Band meets once a week after school until 4:00 in the band room at Prairie View. Students who normally ride the bus home will be given activity bus pass.
