SPBB Calendars and Events

SPBB events, sorted by types

What SPBB Calendars are available?

The Master Calendar shows all SPBB events.  It can be slightly more difficult to find things, since it does contain everything.

The Concessions Calendar shows only concessions fund raising events.

The Concert Calendar shows only concerts.  School Concerts, the December Big Band Dance, and other public interest special performances by all SPASD High School Bands other than SOSP.

The Fund Raising Calendar will show non-concessions (Fruit Sales) fund raising events.   This calendar will have deadlines listed as well, for example when fruit orders are due.

The Junior Varsity Sound Project Calendar covers sports events played by that band.

The Miscellaneous Events Calendar will cover events like Solo-Ensemble, Field Trips, and other student band related activities.

The SOSP Performances calendar will list only those, and will be of interest to the general public as well as SOSP families.  It will be available spring of 2009.

The SOSP Members Calendar will list all SOSP events, including practices, deadlines, and will include the SOSP Performances calendar.  Only the new members meeting is so far listed.  A better SOSP Member's Calendar will be available starting Dec of 2008 (SOSP practices begin early in 2009)

The Sound Project Calendar covers sports events and rehearsals played by that band.

The SPBB Members Calendar lists SPBB Meetings and other booster specific events.

The Variety Sound Project Calendar covers events sports events played by that band.

Using SPBB Calendars

Partial View of a full sized calendar. This example shows the Concessions calendar.Pick the calendar of your choice above, and you will see a large format view of that calendar.

This picture is a screen snippet of what you will see when you view a specific SPBB calendar, in this case the Concessions Events Calendar for September of 2008.  Only the first date of this full-sized calendar is viewable in this screen snippet.

To view the next month, click the arrow to the right of the month & year.  Alternatively, to view the previous month, use the arrow to the left.

Pressing "Events list" will show you a formated text list of all future events specific to the particular calendar you are viewing.  Future months and years will be displayed in the list, not just the particular month's calendar you were viewing.  Obviously, "Past events list" will do the same list format for past events.  Press "Month" to return to the calendar view.

Note the small calendar to the left (you can see all of it in this screen snippet) always shows highlights of ALL SPBB events.

To return to the master list of calendars, press either the "Calendars" word between "Home -> Calendars -> Concessions Events" or, slightly above, the "Calendars" Tab.

Importing SPBB Calendars into your Personal Calendar, PIM, Outlook, etc.

Warning: This is EXPERIMENTAL.  Not responsible for messing up your calendar.  Use at your own risk.  Buyer beware.  Good Luck.  Back up first.

SPBB is currently looking for volunteer testers to test this functionality on the SPBB website.  It works for us using a few calendar programs, but we'd like to increase our test cases.  Please email website@spbb.org if you are interested in being a calendar import tester.

Despite the disclaimers, the calendar information is transferred to your computer via a simple text file, and it is EXTREMELY unlikely to truly harm anything on your computer.   Typically, the worst case is your calendar doesn't understand the file (.ics format) and it will simply fail to import anything to your calendar.  If your computer understands .ics files, it'll work. Microsoft Outlook understands and can import .ics format files from the SPBB web site.

The full sized SPBB Calendars have an "Export" Button in the upper right corner.   IF your computer is configured correctly, you can press it and it will "export" from the SPBB website the specific calendar you have selected and "import" it into your computer's calendar program.  Use this with caution if you are importing the Master SPBB calendar!  If you want Concerts, then pick ONLY the Concert Calendar.  All events from the selected SPBB calendar beyond and prior the present time will be imported into your calendar.

But wait, there's more!  You can subscribe to any SPBB website calendar so that schedule changes can be transferred automagically into your personal calendar.  Your personal calendar must support "subscribing to" or "remote" or "web" calendars.  Right click the SPBB calendar "export" button described above, and then select "copy link address" or "copy short cut", or equivilent for your web browser.  Then go to your calendar program and do what ever you have to do to bring up a dialog to subscribe to a web calendar.  Press "Control-V" or paste with the mouse the link you just right clicked on at the SPBB web site.  It'll insert a link that starts with "http://www.spbb.org" and will end with "icalendar.ics."   Press OK.  If your calendar program supports it, it will automatically check for updates from the SPBB web site!!  Some personal calendar programs require a manual refresh to check for updates.
